(February 2015) – Furia Rubel Communications, Inc., an award-winning integrated and strategic marketing and public relations agency, is pleased to announce that President and CEO Gina Furia Rubel, Esq., has been elected secretary and treasurer of The Justinian Foundation, an affiliate of The Justinian Society of Philadelphia of which Rubel is a past chancellor and has served on the board for two decades.
Founded in 1935, The Justinian Society is a legal organization comprised of attorneys, judges and law students of Italian ancestry. Based in Philadelphia, the Society’s members celebrate generations of involvement within the legal community. The Society promotes continuing education in law, supports the advancement of qualified and distinguished Justinians in public office, serves the Italian-American legal profession and the community, and strives to uphold a positive image of Italian Americans.
In 1996, members of the Society, including Rubel’s father, Richard F. Furia who was chancellor of the Society at that time, formed a separate 501 (c)3 foundation to provide scholarships to second and third-year law students. Eligible students are enrolled at Drexel, Temple, University of Pennsylvania, Villanova, Widener and other law schools within Philadelphia and surrounding counties.
“I am honored to serve The Justinian Foundation, which holds a special place in my heart. My grandfather, the Honorable Edward W. Furia was a founding member of the Society and my father served as secretary and treasurer of the Foundation up until his death in 2011,” said Rubel. “In fact, we named a specific scholarship after my father in 2011, which was presented for the first time in 2012. The Richard F. Furia Scholarship requires the applicant to write an essay explaining how, as an attorney, the applicant will work to fight bias, bigotry and defamation of Italians and Italian Americans as well as other groups. I am proud to be able to carry on the Furia family’s legacy of service.”
Gina Furia Rubel has been honored by The Justinian Society with the Lisa A. Richette Woman in Law Award. A graduate of Drexel University and Widener University School of Law, she lives in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, with her family.
