Law Firms Playing Catch-Up With Training, Looking for ROI on Current Tech Tools [The Legal Intelligencer Quoting Gina Rubel]
While some law firms are beginning to train attorneys on the use of generative AI and other new technologies, other firms are focusing their training efforts on technology they already have, hoping to fully utilize these established tools. Gina Rubel, CEO & General Counsel of Furia Rubel, discusses the varying training approaches across the current legal landscape and emphasizes the importance of investing in the adoption of new technology.
Rubel notes that small and midsize firms have approached her for training on new AI tools and in some cases, marketers and legal operations professionals are individually pursuing training. “They are going and seeking it on their own even if their law firm isn’t providing any,” she states.
The training services Rubel offers prove beneficial for firms lacking resources to conduct their own training. Rubel educates legal professionals on the importance of case uses for new technologies and provides an overview of the advantages, opportunities, policy considerations, and risks associated with the rise of generative AI.
Rubel emphasizes that training is crucial to unlocking the potential of new technology for law firms. “They need to be training, bottom line, training everyone. [It is] every law firm’s responsibility to train everyone in the firm to use the technology that’s at their disposal. … [That’s] why a lot of firms block them at first because they haven’t done training. … [It’s the] safest way to move forward if you’re not going to start training [right away].”
