There often comes the time in the attorney-client lifecycle, when an attorney needs to handover its clients to a new lead counsel. Gina Rubel spoke to Law360 about law firm management and succession planning when a senior attorney is retiring or taking a lesser role in the firm.
There are proactive ways for partners and associates to transition clients to avoid losing clients as the generational shift takes place.
“Focus on making the senior lawyers look good, and they will want to do the same for you,” said Rubel. “Make your primary motivation the best long-term interest of the law firm and not your wallet — and it is more probable that you will earn your way to the top of the ladder.”
