Protect Yourself from Phishing Scams, Effective Attorney Bios, and Best Use of LinkedIn
Here’s a compilation of some blogs and articles that we’ve been talking about at Furia Rubel. Almost daily we share marketing, public relations and crisis communications articles internally and just about weekly, we publish blogs of importance to our audience. Here are some that our team agreed are worthy of resharing.
Protect Yourself from Phishing Scams
While I recently published this, I cannot stress the importance of due diligence and care before clicking on links in emails. Phishing scams are out of control. If you do nothing else, hover over any links before clicking. Just because it says https:// doesn’t make it legit. Dig deeper, look further. The link is likely not going to where the email says it goes. There are so many red flags in every phishing email. Be suspicious of anything that comes from a bank, PayPal, eBay, Venmo, or any online financial service. Here’s a screenshot of one that I just received. Look at the URL. It is NOT legit.
How to Get the Most out of LinkedIn
Dennis Garcia, an Assistant General Counsel for Microsoft Corporation, advises lawyers to capitalize on the power of LinkedIn. He says, “LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network and the digital business card of the 21st century that enables all lawyers to achieve more. Facebook Plans to Create a Judicial-like Body to Address Controversial Speech
In response to scandal and public scrutiny, Facebook recently launched ambitious new policies and practices on how it plans to moderate speech on its platform. For Some Women Lawyers, Owning Their Own Firms Can Create Opportunities
Working with a women-owned business demonstrates a company’s readiness to work with diverse markets, as well as support local communities. It also promotes innovation, creativity and inclusion. The Legal Intelligencer recently wrote an article about the benefits of being a women-led law firm. While it does not always guarantee business, women-led businesses, like Furia Rubel Communications, who are also certified by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), have the added credibility of the rigorous WBENC certification. Clients of women-owned law firms appreciate that they are women-led, but won’t skimp on quality of service. Women attorneys are realizing that leading their own firms give them more flexibility and higher profits.
Which Disconnects Are Holding Your Firm Back?
When researching for her new book, Deborah Farone found that the struggle of law firms to connect to their clients was a common theme. She concluded that these “disconnects” can become opportunities for firms that fill a niche and deliver what clients seek. Firms such as Allen & Overy are raising to the challenge through creativity and don’t hesitate to bring in outside help when needed. Law firms have always been slow to adapt to change in areas such as marketing and technology, but through new innovations and efficiencies, firms are coming around to focus on the substantive needs of their clients and learning to rely on the talents of their non-legal staff.
How to Make an Introduction on LinkedIn
LinkedIn allows you to easily make an introduction to other people in your network. The easiest way is to click on the Messaging icon and compose a message to each contact.
You can also share a profile by clicking on the More button on a profile.
When requesting an introduction from someone in your network, take the time to write out the introduction for your connection. The introduction is bound to be made much faster with a little effort from you.
