The Scranton Times-Tribune, the Citizens’ Voice of Wilkes-Barre, The Bucks County Courier Times and The Intelligencer, and the Bucks County Herald shared the news that the Baruch S. Blumberg Institute, the research arm of the Hepatitis B Foundation has partnered with Scranton’s The Commonwealth Medical College to offer a 16-month life sciences graduate degree – the only one of its kind in Bucks County – for working professionals.

IPPro Life Sciences announced that Dennis J. Butler has been named a partner with Panitch Schwarze Belisario & Nadel LLP. He formerly was an associate with the firm.

Attorney At Law Magazine noted that Jennifer Weidler Karpchuk, of the Philadelphia office of the business law firm, Chamberlain, Hrdlicka, White, Williams & Aughtry, served as faculty for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute and presided over a program entitled, “Top Ten Mistakes Philadelphia Businesses Make.” The Legal Intelligencer also shared the news that Jennifer presented a CLE at the New Jersey Society of Enrolled Agents entitled, “Hot Topics in New York / New Jersey / Pennsylvania State Tax Issues.”   

The Legal Intelligencer also noted that Jennifer Weidler Karpchuk joined Chamberlain Hrdlicka colleague and longtime Philadelphia state and local tax attorney Stewart Weintraub to again author updates to the 2016 edition of the Pennsylvania Tax Handbook.

The Jewish Exponent shared the news that Stuart W. Davidson, of labor, employment and workers’ compensation law firm Willig, Williams & Davidson, will chair the Professionals Committee of the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans for 2016.

The Journal of the National Cancer Institute published a paper drafted by the Hepatitis B Foundation on ways to enhance the process of screening and care for those with liver cancer brought on by chronic hepatitis infections. The article, “Hepatitis-Associated Liver Cancer: Gaps and Opportunities to Improve Care,” has been published online and will appear in the journal’s April 2016 print issue.

In other Hepatitis B Foundation news, the Philadelphia Business Journal shared the news that the organization raised more than $3 million through its “Nobel Challenge.” Funds raised will be used to support the foundation’s research arm, the Baruch S. Blumberg Institute, in its research to find a cure for the deadly disease.

The Boston University School of Law, the Philadelphia Business Journal and Jewish Exponent shared the news that the law firm of Kaufman, Coren & Ress, P.C., has welcomed plaintiffs’ securities fraud, antitrust and consumer class action attorney, Deborah R. Gross to the firm as Of Counsel.

DelawareToday magazine has named longtime intellectual property attorney Patricia S. Rogowski, from the Wilmington office of Panitch Schwarze Belisario & Nadel LLP, among the state’s top attorneys.

The Philadelphia Business Journal notes that Mario T. Milano has joined the Wilmington, Delaware office of Panitch Schwarze Belisario & Nadel LLP as an associate. With a background in mechanical engineering, Milano focuses his practice on patents, trade secrets and trademark law.

Mutual financial organization, Penn Community Bank, created by the unification of First Federal of Bucks County and First Savings Bank of Perkasie, has donated $32,500 to the Bucks County nonprofits Bucks County Housing Group, Bucks County Opportunity Council, Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County and Vita Education Services.

Domestic relations attorney Kathleen M. Tana, of the labor, employment and workers’ compensation firm, Willig, Williams & Davidson, presented a 6-credit CLE on adoption  for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute.  

Several media outlets, including Bloomberg BNA, the Portland Business Journal, Seattle Business Magazine, The Bemidji Pioneer, the Minnesota Business Journal, and the Alaska Journal of Commerce shared the news that James E. Torgerson has been named Firm-Wide Managing Partner of Portland-based Stoel Rives LLP. Torgerson becomes the first managing partner to lead a major law firm from the state of Alaska, where he is based in Anchorage. Stoel Rives, which has nearly 400 lawyers in offices in seven states and the District of Columbia, focuses on industries ranging from energy and infrastructure, to health care and life sciences and manufacturing and consumer products.
