Media Relations and Awareness Campaign for a NonProfit Celebrating Seniors and Making Dreams Come True

Twilight Wish Foundation (www.twilightwish.org) is a nonprofit that grants wishes to seniors under the poverty level. The Foundation was established by Cass Forkin to provide a vehicle for celebrating seniors. When Furia Rubel was told the Foundation needed “help getting off the ground publicity, a Web site, marketing materials, volunteers, and funding,” Furia Rubel and partners, Ampersand Design and Pistachio Consulting chose to handle the work pro bono. Within two weeks, Forkin was featured on CNN Newsmakers, had a logo, Web site, marketing materials and more.

Within the first two weeks of conducting publicity, Forkin had received inquiries from potential volunteers in thirty-eight states who asked to start chapters. The Foundation now has a volunteer in every state in the country.

Furia Rubel provides strategic communications support and media relations to the Foundation in hopes of not only creating awareness but also raising funds so that they can continue to grant wishes to seniors. Twilight Wish finances its work through individual contributions, corporate sponsorships, foundation grants, planned gifts, special events, in-kind donations and profit from sales of Twilight Wish products.

Since the Newsmakers interview, Forkin was featured in Family Circle as a “Woman Who Makes a Difference” and mentioned in two consumer books.

With the help of Furia Rubel and many volunteers, Twilight Wish has been featured in USA Today, People magazine, The National Enquirer, and Senior Source Guide. The organization has received television media coverage for many television networks and radio stations throughout the United States, too numerous to mention.

To date, more than 1,000 individual wishes have been granted and the Foundation has garnered interest from all fifty states and other countries (Canada, India, Italy and Bulgaria) that want to start their own chapters. Furia Rubel continues to serve in a consulting capacity.
